Congratulations to Dr. Peng Zhang on successfully appliying Hong Kong for ILASS-Asia sub-session.

 

Tao Yang, Zeying Hu, Jinyang Wang, and Wenhao Wang attended the 16th International Conference on Liquid Atomization and Spray Systems (ICLASS). Four presentations were given:

"A New Scaling Law Of Splashing Threshold For Droplets Impacting On A Smooth Solid Surface" was presented by Tao Yang.

"Computational Realization Of Popping Impinging Sprays Of Hypergolic Bipropellants By A Spray-Equation Approach" was presented by Jinyang Wang.

"An Extended Kh-Rt Relaxation-Breakup Model For Eulerian-Lagrangian Simulation Of Two-Phase Detonation" and "Eulerian-Lagrangian Simulation Of Liquid-Fueled Oblique Detonation On Openfoam" were presented by Wenhao Wang.

Dr. Zhang was invited by Prof. Fei Qi and Xi Xia to deliver a talk entitled "Eulerian-Lagrangian Simulation of Spray Combustion in Detonation and Rocket Engine" at School of Mechanical and Power Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The Lagrangian particle tracking (LPT) and spray equation methods were presented through recent computational works. Dr. Zhang conducted Q&A on the droplet modeling problems.

Dr. Peng Zhang and Dr. Ning Liu were invited by Dr. Xuren Zhu at Foshan Xianhu Laboratory (the Advanced Energy Science and Technology Guangdong Laboratory) to visit the green hydrogen and green ammonia preparation laboratory and the fuel cell test center, particularly the world's first zero-carbon ammonia fuel tile.

After the visits, we had an in-depth discussion on the ammonia-based combustion studies and future collaboration.

Dr. Tian  delivered a talk entitled "Ammonia as a Fuel? The Impact of Ammonia Substitutions on NOx and Soot Formation" and Dr. Yang gave a presentation of "Unsteady Flow: From System to Component Level".

After the seminar, we had an in-depth discussion on hypergolic ignition by droplet collisions and future collaboration. A dinner was hosted to welcome Dr. Mota’s visiting.

Newly Accepted Papers

A paper has been recently accepted by Combustion and Flame: Dynamical Mode Recognition of Triple Flickering Buoyant Diffusion Flames in Wasserstein Space. Please refer to the preprint version.

A paper has been recently published by The Journal of Physical Chemistry A: A Metric-based Assessment Method for MS-T Formalism with Small Subsets of Torsional Conformers. Please refer to the online version.

These two papers on different topics use the same mathematical concept of metric (distance function), one defined in a probability space and the other in a high-dimensional space of dihedral angles of molecules.

Dr. Zhang delivered an invited talk entitled "Towards High-level Theoretical Chemical Kinetics of Large-molecule Fuel Combustion" in the Shock Wave Colloquium of Chinese Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (CCTAM-2017).

Dr. Xia presented a paper entitled "Vortex-ring-induced internal mixing within coalesced droplets" in CCTAM-2017.
